Grid Interactive Solar System Information Sheet

A grid interactive solar system converts sunlight into electricity. Solar panels are connected through an inverter, which converts dc from the solar panels to 240V ac electricity.
The electricity produced by the solar system powers your house and any excess is fed into the main electricity grid. You can balance your power bill so that you have little or nothing to pay. Additionally, you can significantly reduce your home's greenhouse gas emissions by several tonnes per year.

Where should the panels and inverter be installed?

Wherever you believe it convenient - bearing in mind that you want maximum sun and minimum shading. It is recommended that the solar panels face north at 30 degrees to the horizontal. Adelaide Hills Solar can design solar array frames that can be installed on almost any roof to maintain optimum tilt and orientation of the solar panels. The inverter should be located in a position providing protection from the elements such as a garage or under a veranda.

What is the REC's rebate?

REC's stands for Renewable Energy Certificates. You earn one of these for every tonne of greenhouse gas your solar energy system saves. Adelaide Hills Solar sells the certificates generated by your system in fifteen years, to a market trading system. At the time of publication the value of REC's was $36 but this figure changes from time to time.

Does my electricity bill get credited?

Yes. Your retailer pays between 44 - 64c per kWh for the electricity your solar system exports to the grid, which is 2 -3 times the price they charge you for regular electricity. If your exports amount to more than what you use, then you will receive a payment for the difference.

Who installs the system?

We do. Installation by a licensed electrician and certified installers will take about a day, and we will show you how to ensure optimal operation at all times. Prices include installation.

How much maintenance is required?

Very little, you should keep the solar panels clean. Other than that, you will have clean, free solar electricity; with the inverter and panels lasting over 20 years.
